The MLS is Back tournament got underway with Orlando getting one over on their in-state competition Inter Miami CF at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex on Wednesday.
Former Manchester United and Portugal National Team winger Nani was the big star.
A gratuitous ball fell to his feet in the 97th minute and he slotted it home to secure the full three points, which will count towards the MLS regular season.
Nani also assisted on the game-tying goal to Chris Mueller in the 70th minute, which was a response to Inter Miami’s goal by Juan Agudelo in the 47th.
Let’s be real! Players are not fully game fit and we must expect unforced errors and questionable choices.
Orlando City SC 2-1 Inter Miami CF
- 47th Agudelo (Inter Miami)
- 70th Mueller (Orlando)
- 97th Nani (Orlando)
- Man of the Match: Nani
Insight: Scary moment with Inter Miami CB Andres Reyes, who was caught by Orlando forward Dom Dwyer. The two had been going at it all match.
Dwyer, in my humble opinion, had been late on a number of challenges throughout the night and was frustrated.
Reyes went to the hospital but will now have to remain in quarantine.
As for the “bubble,” can it really be a bubble with hotel workers going in and out? That said the testing and protocol seems to be excellent per players and coaches.
