Last week, I decided to make the road trip up to Austin to get an up-close look at the stadium construction for Austin FC’s McKalla Place Stadium.
Hit the road up to Austin to check out the construction of new @AustinFC stadium. In 2021 they join @HoustonDynamo @FCDallas as 3rd @MLS team in Lone Star state. pic.twitter.com/dCJRVFEtIr

This is a drive I am very familiar with, as when not involved in MLS pxp duties. I have had the privilege to call University of Texas women’s soccer matches on Longhorn Network for many years.
Upon arrival, I was able to park my car in numerous locations around the stadium to observe the ongoing construction and the massiveness of the steel structure.
As I observed the ongoing activity, I thought ahead to the day that stadium will be packed and traveling fans from the Dynamo and FC Dallas can help to create amazing regional rivalries.
I then made the drive back to Houston, excited that the state of Texas will have three MLS clubs and how important, in a league of expansion, that regionalization can be to grow the game, clubs and the sport.
