A reminder to all of us that many are risking far more than we are on the front lines of trying to contain and defeat COVID-19. We all know many of these real heroes and, day after day, we count on them in all aspects or our lives from birth to death.

Standing on my rooftop deck last night, looking at the blue in our powerful symbolic Houston downtown skyline took me to places where these remarkable individuals put it on the line for others.
I wonder if that blue light will remain “ON” when this COVID-19 virus is controlled, defeated and we get back to a different level of normalcy in life.
Will the definition and the bar of “hero” be changed to these individuals who go into the “fire” on our behalf? They were doing it before COVID-19 and will do it after. That won’t change because they are “different,” they are “givers.”
Tonight, we are lighting the St. Louis Wheel blue in solidarity with our healthcare workers and those on the frontlines of the Covid-19 pandemic.

If you are looking for a “superhero” he or she may live right next to you and not on Netflix.
What I hope, in positive fashion changes, is that we hold these people in the highest of esteem in grander terms, in deeper ways. They are holding the hands of those passing in place of family members at this time.
I, like you, have many friends and acquaintances that are “essential workers” and daily I am awed by them. I have been since my late teens when my sister became a nurse.

My visits to cancer patients over the years provides me the greatest gift of all, appreciation, reality and perspective and the ability to see clearly my good fortune, that my problems, in comparison, are minute.
At the end of the day, I am just a TV commentator, radio host, a lover of a sport who is constantly humbled and awed by these individuals.
Let’s keep the blue light on ALWAYS for the real heroes.
